Oturehua Tavern was built in 1899. Come in and have a Central Otago experience in a historic and unique environment. This being the home of the Bonspiel, (international outdoor curling event), and the Brass Monkey motorcycle rally.
We offer an extensive home cooked menu including vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and dairy free options. Have a Central Otago wine, cold beer or a Hummingbird free trade organic specialty coffee. Enjoy the day in our beer garden and for the children our ginger beer play garden.
Oturehua means "The Sun God" and is noted for it's extremely cold winters and hot dry summers. Oturehua is close to the highest point on the Rail Trail, 618 metres above sea level.
Other attractions include- Hayes Engineering, (now owned by The Historic Places Trust) where the Hayes Permanent Wire Strainer was created and perfected inside the historic mud brick buildings. Experience the recently restored mud brick historic homestead. Walk around the historic Golden Progress Mine and note the fantastic views of this end of the Maniototo.
