Central Otago is served by Dunstan Hospital at Clyde, 8km from Alexandra. Dunstan Hospital has been operating in Central Otago since 1863. The modern, purpose built facility was extensively refurbished in 2005. The Dunstan Hospital facility includes a 24 acute bed inpatient ward (including a three bed High Dependency Unit) and provides secondary health services to around 25,000 people living in the wider Central Otago and Wanaka regions.

Central Otago Health Services Ltd (COHSL) is a community owned, not-for-profit company which is responsible for providing health services out of Dunstan Hospital. COHSL provides acute medical care, rehabilitation, palliative care and a full range of community services for people through out the age spectrum. Specialists from Dunedin Hospital visit, minimising the need to travel to Dunedin for some services. Please note that Dunstan Hospital does not provide an Accident and Emergency (A & E) service - patients must be referred by a GP or ambulance staff. If you need an emergency service, please dial 111.

Alexandra, Cromwell, Ranfurly and Roxburgh have local medical centres and resident doctors. Geriatric care services are in Cromwell, Alexandra, Ranfurly and Roxburgh. Groups such as Plunket and Parents Centres are throughout the district. For further information click on health services .
