Clothing - wear layers of clothing as the climate can be changeable at any time of the year.

Sun protection - it's sensible to wear sunscreen at any time of the year, particularly in the very hot summer months.

Bicycle - a mountain bike is best. Always wear a helmet and take tools and a puncture repair kit.

Water - take plenty with you. There are opportunities to purchase water at the local villages along the trail.

Food and Refreshments - take food and snacks for lunch. There are opportunities to purchase food at the local villages along the trail.

Medical - take a first aid kit with you.

Accommodation - book in advance at any of the places advertised on this website. 

Comfort stops - toilets are available at Pinders Pond and the local villages along the trail.

Cell Phone - coverage is limited.

Keep left - consider other users. Cyclists give way to walkers.

Falling branches - Please beware of falling branches in high winds.

Swimming - in the Clutha Mata-au River is not recommended. It is dangerous.

River levels - can change dramatically. Please be careful.

Hunting - You could encounter the sound of shotguns during the hunting season for ducks and upland game from May to August inclusive.

Visibility - Use the trail only during daylight hours. Stay on the Trail.

Motorised transport - No motorised transport is allowed on the Trail.

Rubbish - is to be taken away with you.

Stock - be aware that you may encounter stock on or near the Trail.

Highway - The Trail crosses the highway on several occasions. Take care at all times.
