Information for non-New Zealand nationals and permanent residents wishing to work in Central Otago
If you have a job offer from a New Zealand employer you may be able to get a temporary work visa under the Essential Skills work category. Click HERE for more information on the Essential Skills Work Category Requirements.
The Essential Skills In Demand (ESID) Lists aim to facilitate the entry of appropriately skilled migrants to fill skill shortages and to reduce costs and time delays for employers seeking staff. However, this objective must be balanced by the need to ensure that there are no suitably skilled or qualified New Zealand citizens or resident workers available to undertake the work, and that the shortage is genuine.
Changes to ESID Lists took effect on 11 April 2016. These changes implement decisions announced on 18 December 2015 to:
• add four occupations to the Immediate Skill Shortage List
• remove seven occupations in the oil and gas sector from the Immediate Skill Shortage List
• remove six other occupations from the Immediate Skill Shortage List
• remove two occupations from the Long Term Skill Shortage List
It also updates the requirements (e.g. qualifications and experience) which migrants need to satisfy to apply for a work visa or a residence visa using the skill shortage lists. The requirements can be accessed through the Skill Shortage List Check.
The changes for the Dairy and Beef Farming occupations will take effect on 30 May 2016.
Information for New Zealand Industry Representatives
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is reviewing Immigration New Zealand’s Essential Skills in Demand (ESID) Lists. Nominations of occupations for the review have been assessed and those accepted for the review are listed below.
The next stage of the review is to invite submissions from interested parties for the occupations being reviewed. Preliminary Indicator Evidence Reports (PIERs) have been prepared for each occupation, to provide some relevant statistical and other information for the occupations. The PIERs are available on the Immigration New Zealand website here. This webpage also includes a submission form and other information for the review. Submissions must be sent to shortages.review@mbie.govt.nz by 24 August.
The occupations being reviewed this year are:
