Clyde to Alexandra Road Race

The Clyde to Alexandra Road Races have been held in Central Otago every spring since 1969. Organised by the Alexandra Harrier and Walkers Club, this premier 10km road race attracts around 400 athletes from Otago, Southland and further afield. The Otago 10km Road Championships are held in conjunction with this race.

Starting on the crest of the Clyde Dam, the 10km run heads down through the historic township of Clyde, along Muttontown Road to the main highway, which runners and walkers then follow to the finish line on the road reserve on the outskirts of Alexandra.

There are 10km and 6km recreational walks held before the running race over the same route.

And there are also shorter races for junior runners, including 2km and 4km off-road runs in the Pines plantation for those under 11 and under 14 years, and a 6km road run for runners under 18 years.

This race is far from being solely about “top gun runners”. There are many participants "Giving it a Go!", walking or running their first 10km race, or coming back to better their time! For these competitors, the personal challenge of competing and finishing is just as important as being in the top placings.

The event concludes with afternoon tea and prize-giving for competitors and their supporters.
