With a steep start and fabulous panoramic views, the 45th Parallel Loop Track is sure to get the blood pumping.
Park your car near the 45th parallel monument 500m past the Lowburn Inlet on SH 6, Luggate-Cromwell Road. Carefully cross the main highway then follow the track over the stile and up the Sugar Loaf.
Walk along the top of the terrace to a viewing point aligned with the 45th parallel, for some excellent photo opportunities. You can either head back the same way or take a loop track down Hanging Gully to Lowburn Inlet and back along the side of the lake to your car.
An alternative start/finish is via the Sugarloaf Terrace track; park at Clark Road and walk up to the top of the Sugarloaf Terrace via an existing 4WD track. You will see evidence of gold diggings as you go upwards past a proposed site for a water reservoir for Pisa Moorings. Follow the yellow markers, skirting the Dendy cherry orchard, and head south towards Lowburn.
