Cromwell Ambassador

An exciting new Ambassador programme was officially launched in Cromwell on 20 June 2016. Cromwell Ambassador is a 3-hour course designed for businesses, their staff and the community to build their knowledge about the town and its history and to give them the information and tools to confidently connect with visitors and customers.

The programme is developed and run by the Queenstown Resort College and is tailored specifically to the Cromwell community, with successful courses already being run in Queenstown and Wanaka.

Local community group, Cromwell & Districts Community Trust, worked with Queenstown Resort College to bring the programme to Cromwell. Early in the development of the Ambassador programme, the Trust recognised it as an excellent opportunity to provide businesses and the community with the tools and information to add real value to visitor and customer experiences in Cromwell.

Ambassador Programme - Core Concepts

The Ambassador programme has four core concepts:

People – Engage with visitors and the public.

People do business with people they like, having a good base of local knowledge allows for greater opportunities to connect with customers or visitors. It’s the things that cost nothing which lead to the best visitor experiences.

Place – Connect with your place and your community.

Understand the history, respect the past, show pride in your town and develop your local knowledge to share with others.

Future – Ambassador helps your team grow your business.

Ambassador inspires people and grows businesses by providing tools to ensure a positive and totally memorable customer experience.

Culture – Practice great customer service.

Take pride in what you do, the right culture and knowledge drives consistency, reputation and brand recognition.

The four core concepts of the Ambassador Programme fit perfectly to help achieve some of the key objectives identified in the Towards Better Tourism Outcomes for Central Otago 2014 - 2019 document, particularly around promoting the area and improving customer service.

The recommendations that the programme will help achieve include; educating the local community about the range of quality visitor products in the region; encouraging tourism operators and service providers to be aware of and promote other activities in the region; businesses should work together to ‘share’ the responsibility of ensuring consistent service delivery levels; and develop regularly-run short service training courses that cater for service delivery positions.
