In Central Otago we work independently following the principles of The Compassionate Friends Inc. We gather together to support each other every two months where we either have a speaker, watch a video on aspects of grief, share each others grief or chat informally. Personal support is given by phone calls and home visits particularly to the newly bereaved and where a need is known. Once a year we endeavour to run a grief workshop. We have our own committee of volunteers who meet regularly to see that COCF continues to operate efficiently so to support all bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents in the Central Otago Region. The committee makes applications for grants to fund operating costs. There are no subscriptions. The newsletter and workshops are free to bereaved families. No commitment is expected from bereaved families to attend workshops, bi-monthly gatherings or receive newsletters. Ongoing support for COCF is generously supported with a sustaining grant from The Central Lakes Trust. Other major funders include The Community Trust of Otago, The Healthcare Otago Charitable Trust, The Trusts Community Foundation, Pub Charities, The Lion Foundation, The Community Organisation Grants Scheme, and The Lotteries Board. We also receive occasional support from The Community Trust of Southland, The Lions, The McPhail Trust, The GG Scott Trust, The Ida MacDonald Trust, and The Lend-a-Hand Trust. We are grateful to these organisations and other groups and individuals who have contributed since our inception in the 1990s, and we look forward to your continued future support.
