Probus 14 is a group of retired men and women meeting together on the first Thursday of each month at St. Aidan's Church Hall, corner of Bantry and Shannon Streets.
During the summer months we meet at 0945 for morning tea and a chat before the meeting starts at 1015. In June, July and August the meeting starts at 1330 and finishes with afternoon tea.
At each meeting, members and visitors are greeted and given a ticket for a Lucky Door Prize. Subscriptions are only $15 a year, but you may wish to spend a dollar or two extra to take part in the monthly raffles.
At most meetings a nominated member will give a personal short profile of their life.
At each meeting a Guest Speaker is invited to talk on a topic of their choice. You can expect to hear all sorts of things and they are often illustrated with a Power Point Presentation. In the past we have heard about Escaping the Twin Towers collapse, House Boating in France, Working in Christchurch during the Earthquake, A Visit to Antarctica, The Town Crier, Escorting a Pony Club to compete in England, Competing in the World Kayaking Championships and many more.
Other monthly activiities may include bus trips to places of interest, or organized social activities. Also on the 4th Friday of the month, a group meet for a social afternoon tea at a pre determined cafe. There is something to do most weeks if a member chooses to do so.
